HAAS, HERB, KRINARD, STUMBERG posted by Linda Garrett on Saturday, November 4, 2000
I am researching a Herb family that was known to have connections in Bunker Hill, Macoupin Co, IL. From an obit from Madison Co, IL on a Jacob Herb it states he died Feb. 21, 1898 while visiting his daughter, Mary Krinard who lived at Bunker Hill. He was from Wuttemburg, Germany and came to US in 1854. He also had a son, C.A. Herb who was a Senator and preceeded him in death. His son, Charles F. Herb lived in Alton at the time of his father's death. I found there was a William Herb listed on the 1860 census living in Bunker Hill, Macoupin Co, IL and was 21 and also came from Germany. I'm trying to establish that William was also a son of Jacob and that he was the same William that married my g-grandmother, Wilhelmena Haas and lived in Alton. My grandmother, Amelia Herb was born in 1876 and her father had died by 1879 when her mother re-married to Frederick Stumberg. Any help would be much appreciated. Linda Garrett

BUTCHER, CAUDLE, LAND, RENTFRO posted by Betty Kehl Richardson on Saturday, November 11, 2000
The 1830 census index on the site is wonderful. I found several of my Caudles spelled Coddle as usual on the census. Joshua who was born in 1770 in Chatham NC. shows on the 1830 as being 60-70 which is correct. Also on the census are his sons Isham and John. There is also a Jarves Coddle who must be related and I am wondering if anyone knows who he is. Fountain Land shows on the 1830. He was a half brother to one of my direct ancestors Hester Ann Butcher who married Thomas parish Caudle. Her mother was Rebecca Narcissus Rentfro who m. first John Land and second Isaac Butcher. Some of the Caudles are buried in Land Cemetery in Macoupin County. The Land family who donated the land for the cemetery must be the same family as John Land and his son Fountain Land.

Researching the Arkabauer family that aparently embarked from Bremmen in 1846 I have been unable to tie all 3 of the Arkabauer famlies togather. From 1911 Macoupin book page 360/1 Meint Arkabauer Meint Arkabauer, one of the substantial citizens and for many years one of the most successful farmers of Mount olive Township, Macoupin County owning 400 acres of land in sections 10 and 11, was born in Hanover, Germany, September 8, 1828. He was the son of Harm and Annie (Johnson) Arkabauer. The father of our subject was born in Hanover, Germany, in 1798 and died in Illinois at the age of 60 years. The mother who was born in Germany in 1802, was killed killed accidently on the Wabash railroad at the age of 80 years. Their children were: Mrs. Anthia Shoen of Mount Olive; Mient of this sketch; Mrs. Martha Ross, of Mount Olive; Mrs. Gerdje Gerrels, a widow of Mount Olive; and Mrs. Trintje Whitehouse deceased. His 80 acres being within the city limits of Mount Olive. In 1857 Mr. Arkabauer married Tette Keiser, who was born in Germany and died in Macoupin County, in 1874 aged 36 years. They had six children, of whom the following are living: Johanna the wife of Fred Droste, who operates the home farm-they have nine children; Hermina, who is the wife of Henry J. Gehner, Jr. of Cahokia Township, Macoupin County; Anna who married Charles Kueneth, of Mount Olive towmship, and has five children and has five children; and John who has five children and lives on the Kansas property. Mr. Arkabauer has 27 grandchildren.

Does anyone know of a lady named Donna Gibson who lives in Girard, Illinois? Her maiden name was Sellinger. Her parents were Alberta Franklin & Jack Sellinger. Donna also had a step-father named John B. Thomas and another step-dad named Harold Powell. Alberta & Harold are both buried in O'Fallen, Mo. Donna had 3 children, Donna, Mary Lou, & Danny. Believe that Donna was born deaf. If you know of her, please email me or let her know I am looking for her. Her grandma, Mary (Mullinix) Franklin was my grandpa's sister. Trying to find our family! My email is:missylynn1998@hotmail.com. Thanks! Marsha
