RESEARCH BY MAIL PROCEDURES
Important, please read: The county courthouse still has all
the records they have always had and copies of those records are
available from the courthouse; you must write to them as usual
for births, marriages, deaths, land records, and probate.
We are archives volunteers working with records that were
previously unavailable, records which were stored in the dome
and the basement of the courthouse and moved by volunteers to a
building bought by the county for the old records.
Fees: $10.00 per hour for
research services, with a 2-hour deposit of $20
We will accept a deposit of $40 for 4 hours of research as a
maximum. We will return unused money. We will advise you of the
total cost and estimated postage, and we will mail the materials
AFTER full payment is received.
Limit 2 surnames and a 10-year period per letter.
Copy costs: Twenty-five cents per page
Make checks payable to "Linda Kmiecik".

Records to be searched:
You tell us which books you want us to search for you,
from the list of available items posted here.
Marriage
Application Books:
Look at the list for years covered, generally 1905 through the
1970s at the county archives.
The later the marriage application, the better the
information usually is (i.e., more questions & answers).
Other marriage application books from the earliest, 1876 to
1904, are at IRAD (click for more
information on IRAD)
Marriage License Books:
Look at the list for years covered.
Note that some of these books are for minors and some are for
adults.
Probate
Books:
Look at the list for titles and years covered - there
are gaps.
Tax Books
(Assessor and Collector):
Many are by town or township, so please give the
town name or township and range numbers.
We can check a couple of townships, but will not check ALL of the
tax books or ALL of the township and range locations.
click
here for a better description of the Marriage Applications at
IRAD.
Please provide name of bride and/or groom, date of the marriage
(see on-line Secretary of State marriage database at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases/marriage.html),
and approximate ages, if known.
Some of these marriage application books are for "adult" and some
are for "minor", hence the need for ages.
If the requester does not have a computer and cannot check the
marriage database, we can do that for you, but this will use up
some of the two hours.
