A "First Family" of Macoupin County IL

JOHN WHEELER was born September 6, 1806 in Mayslick, Mason Co KY the son of BENJAMIN WHEELER and MARY MCCARTY. He died July 3, 1895 in Bird Township Macoupin County IL. He is buried in Shiloh Cemetery, Bird Township Macoupin Co., IL. He married MARY "POLLY" CAMERER August 28, 1828 in Clermont County OH. Mary was born October 22, 1803 in Fleming Co KY daughter of HENRY CAMERER and BARBARY FORD.

JOHN WHEELER purchased land in Bird Twp Macoupin Co IL in March 1834, while residing in Greene Co IL. He settled on this land ca 1835 He built one of the first brick houses in the County which stood for many years, being dismantled only in recent years.
