Dugger, Simeon
DUGGER, Simeon Recruit Scottville Feb 23, 1864 Died Aug 15, 1864; wounds; Company "B" 10th Illinois Infantry (Three Year Service)
Mustered in Morgan Co IL; lived in Macoupin Co IL

from Carol Dugger
My great-uncle, Simeon Dugger, died of his wounds in the Civil War. The medical report of Simeon's gunshot wound of the shoulder is quite explicit.

Uncle Simeon Dugger was from Scottville and was a new recruit in the 10th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was fighting in the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, GA when he was wounded. We believe his brother (Elvis Dugger) and 2 other friends(George and James Anderton from Franklin, IL) deserted and took Simeon to Nashville to the military hospital there, then returned to duty with their unit-- although this is an assumption on our part. If anyone knows more details about this we would certainly love to know more.

Simeon worked on the farm of Isaac Owens prior to his enlistment in the 101st. He is buried in Scottville West Cemetery next to his mother, Dilly King Pritchett Dugger, and his two brothers Isaac and Elvis.

Stewart, John Reuben
from Mary Ann Kaylor
John Reuben Stewart, my great-grandfather, was in Company E, 10th Regiment of the Illinois Cavalry, so his original discharge paper states (not a copy, it is framed and in my possession). John enlisted at Palmyra, Macoupin Co. IL the 10th March 1864 for three years. He was discharged on the 15th of August 1865 at Benton Barracks, St. Louis, MO per the circular from the Surgeon General's office, date 4 May 1865. He died in Creede, Colorado the 15th of March 1892, of pneumonia, where he had went to pursue mining, leaving his wife and children behind in Bird Twp., Macoupin Co. He is buried in Homelake National Soldiers & Sailors Home Cemetery, in Monte Vista, CO.

John applied for a Disability Pension re the following papers:

Stewart, William
from Mary Ann Kaylor
William Stewart, brother of John R. Stewart, also enlisted at the same time and place as John above. William died in Huntsville, AR during his tour of duty, supposedly of ill health. No burial record can be found at any National Cemetery or in Macoupin Co. IL.
