Obituary: The remains of Nicholas MEES were brought to this city this morning from Alton, and were taken to St. Joseph's Catholic Church where a requiem mass was celebrated by Fr. ADER, after which the remains were taken to the Catholic cemetery and laid to rest. A large number of relatives and friends attended the funeral.

Obituary: Charles MEINERS, 63, died at the home on North Broad street, Tuesday. He is survived by the widow and one daughter, Miss Myrtle; one brother, Fred MEINERS, and a sister, Mrs. Matilda MILLER. Mr. MEINERS had lived his entire life in this city. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from the residence. Rev. Jos. ?OWDEN, officiated. Burial was in Mayfield Memorial park.

Obituary: Grandmother METCALF Answers Deaths' Summons After Many Years of Service Grandmother William METCALF, sr. (nee Hulda A. DAVIS) was born in Hopkins county, Kentucky, January 4th, 1812, and died in the city of Girard at the residence of her son, O.B. METCALF, March 4, 1998, of old age and a complication of diseases. At the time of her passing to that realm of peace and comfort she had attained the ripe old age of eighty-six years and two months. She was united in wedlock at the age of sixteen years with William METCALF on the 28th day of January, 1828. Seven years of their married life was spent in Kentucky, when they emigrated to Illinois in the fall of 1835, settling first in Greene county, where they resided for some time and then came to Girard in the year 1857 where they resided until 1874, when they moved on a farm southwest of this city, where they remained until 1890 when they again moved to this city, where shortly thereafter death claimed her devoted husband and left her lonely, with the exception of being surrounded by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The deceased was a most true and noble woman, a thorough christian lady, whose noble deeds on earth will be kept in memory by all with whom she came in contact. As far back as 1832 we find her untied with the Primitive Baptist church in Kentucky, moving her membership to Bethlehem church, Greene county, this state, and from there to Girard, uniting with Otter Creek church, of which she was a member when the Master called her and said "Come up Higher." She was the mother of ten children, six of whom preceded her to the shore beyond. She was the mother of the late J.D. METCALF, who was so greatly beloved by all our citizens. She is survived by the following children, Rev. T. M. METCALF, of Carlinville, Mrs. Isaac HEATON, of Girard, Mrs. Maria MICHAELS, of Horton, Kansas, and Judge O.B. METCALF, with a number of grand and great grandchildren, who deeply mourn her departure. Ailing as she did for years, and of late becoming helpless, she was cared for by Judge METCALF and noble wife, who labored incessantly to supply her with every want, encouraging her at every moment, showing themselves to be children of which any parent may verily feel proud. Funeral services were held Sunday at the home of Judge METCALF, on West Madison street, where Elder John CONLEE, of the Primitive Baptist church, preached a very appropriate sermon, after which the remains were conveyed to Girard cemetery, and there laid to rest by the side of her lamented husband and kindred to enjoy a well earned rest from life's cares and tribulations. May her repose be sweet.

Obituary:Caroline Johannah (BURGDORFF) MEYER was born July 24, 1849 in Steinbruch, Hanover, Germany. She passed away at her home, 128 East Washington street, at 7:10 Friday morning, April 29, at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 5 days. At the age of 17, she, with her sister, Miss Annie BURGDORFF immigrated to this country and came directly to Carlinville, where she has resided her entire life. In 1868 she was united in marriage to Frank MEYER, who preceded her in death in the year 1901. This union was blessed with twelve children, six of whom have passed to the Great Beyond, namely: Ida, Freda, Minnie, Anna, and John, who gave his life for his country during the world war; also a son who died in infancy. Surviving are Clara, Ferd, Fred, Mrs. Henry REIHER and Mrs. John ROHR, all of this city, and Walter MEYER, of Jacksonville. Also, one brother, Fred, and three sisters, Miss Anna BURGDORFF, of Petersburg, Mrs. J.F. LANGE, of this city, and Mrs. Freida HOOSE, of Germany, besides ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In religion Mrs. MEYER was a devoted christian in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church, having been baptized and confirmed in Evangelical Lutheran church in Germany. She was a faithful member of the Ladies' Aid and was a regular attendant of the church service when her health would permit. To her family she was a devoted mother and her children can always cherish her loving memories. Her burdens she bore with patience and whenever it was possible for her to lend a willing hand to her friends and neighbors she was always ready. Funeral services were held from St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 1st, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Walter OTT. Internment was in the city cemetery. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends who came to pay their last tribute of respect to the deceased. There were many beautiful flowers and they were cared for by Irene REIHER, Lucille KUNTZMAN, Anita ROHR, Helen ROHR, Wilberta SLAGEL, Virginia SLAGEL, Helen MAHR, and Lorena KALMEY, the latter of Louisville, Ky. The pallbearers were Albert MUELLER, Albert HAMMANN, Wm. NEIGHBORS, Harry BARR, Charles GRIFFEL and John HEILMANN. Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. MEYER, of Jacksonville; Miss Anna BURGDORFF, of Petersburg; Miss Anita ROHR, of Charleston; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer ROHR, of St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. A. BURGER, of St. Louis; Mr. And Mrs. Charles SOUZA, of Jacksonville; Lorena KALMEY, of Louisville, Ky.; Mr. and Mrs. Theo GRAHAM, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. HABEKOST, and Mr. And Mrs. Charles HABEKOST, of Granite City; Mr. And Mrs. Herman SCHUBERT, of Girard; Mr. and Mrs. Charles BOYER, of Virden.

Obituary: Charles and William MEYER received the sad news of the death of their brother, Christ MEYER, in Quincy. He was raised in this city and has many friends here. He was at one time a teacher in the parochial school in Quincy, but at the time of his death was bookkeeper in the RUFF brewery. His wife was Miss Bertha RUFF, who died some years ago. Besides his brothers he leaves to mourn his loss one son, Elmer MEYER, and his brothers, who will attend the funeral, which will occur Sunday.

Obituary: Death of Frank MEYER. Died on Saturday evening, about five o'clock, at his home north of this city, near the Gore school-house, Mr. Frank MEYER, after an illness of but a few weeks of pneumonia, aged 64 years and 28 days. He was born in Waale, Brunswick, Germany, and after coming to this country was united in marriage to Miss Caroline BURGDORFF, of this city. The deceased was an energetic, hard-working farmer, and was a man well liked by all his neighbors and those with whom he became acquainted. He leaves a widow and ten children to mourn his death, the first mentioned living in California, the others being at home: Their names are: Lena, Fritz, Frida, Dora, Anna, Ida, Ferdinand, John, Walter, Clara. The funeral was held at the house at 12 o'clock noon on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. J.H. DINKMEYER, of Alhambra, Ill. Interment in the city cemetery.

Obituary: Frederick J. MEYER, known to his friends as Fritz MEYER, died at his home, 128 East Washington street, in this city, at 9:45 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb 27th. He was aged 67 years. He had been in ill health for the past year. Decedent was born Jan. 11, 1873, in this city, the son of Frank and Caroline BURGDORFF MEYER. He was never married. He followed the occupation of farming most of his life. He resided with his mother until her death eight years ago, since which time he had made his home with his sister, Miss Clara MEYER. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. John ROHR, Mrs. Henry F. REIHER, and Miss Clara MEYER, all of Carlinville; two brothers, Ferdinand, of this city, and Walter of Jacksonville. Also surviving are nine nephews and three nieces. His parents, four sisters and two brothers are deceased. The remains were removed to the Riefenberg Funeral home, where funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30 p.m., Rev. R. HOHMANN, pastor of the Evangelical church officiating. A quartette from that church sand "My Jesus as Thou Wilt," and the "Old Rugged Cross," with Mrs. Gustav MUELLER accompanist at the piano. The interment was in the city cemetery. The pallbearers will be Harry FOLLES, Frank LOGES, Albert HAMMANN, Wm. BLOOME, Sr., Lee BEST and Herman LEHMANN.

Obituary: James Clinton MICKS Litchfield News Herald 6-29-1925 Child Hit By Auto Dies In Hospital Here James Clinton MICKS, aged 3 years, 10 months and 9 days, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles HICKS of Wilsonville, died at St. Francis hospital Saturday night at 9:15 o�clock from injuries received two hours previous, when struck by an automobile. The child, according to witnesses to the accident, was playing with fire works in the business section of town, and started to cross the street when struck by the car, owned and driven by James MANALIA, who conducts a soft drink parlor. The boy, it is said darted from behind a standing car and was not seen. The bumper of the car struck the baby, one wheel passing over the body, breaking two ribs, and inflicting other serious internal injuries. An inquest held at Dodds Undertaking parlors Sunday morning returned a verdict that death was caused from injuries accidentally received by being struck and run down by an automobile at 6:45 o�clock Saturday night, in Wilsonville, by an automobile driven by James MANALIA of Wilsonville. The body was sent to Benld today where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday.

Obituary: Death of Henry MIEHE. Henry MIEHE died at his home in the Fourth Ward Saturday afternoon at 5:40 o'clock, after a few hours' illness, aged 82 years, 5 months and 13 days. The deceased was stricken with paralysis Saturday noon and died as above stated. A physician was called but no relief could be given. He had resided in Carlinville since 1853, and is survived by four daughters and three sons and one sister, as follows: Mrs. Louis GAUCH, Mrs. Coonrod BOEHM, Mrs. Mike BOEHM of this city, and Mrs. John WELK, of Springfield. The sons, Henry, Edward and William reside in this city. The sister is Mrs. Henry STEINMEYER of this city. The deceased was never sick a day in his life prior to Saturday and never required the services of a physician in his long life of 82 years. A remarkable fact. The funeral occurred from St. Paul's Evangelical church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. RIEMEIER officiating.

Obituary: John Henry Frederick MIEHE was born in Sohide, Germany, August 13, 1834, and confirmed April 15, 1849. He died at his home in Palmyra, Ill., November 4, 1906. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 10 o'clock a.m., interment being made in Oak Hill cemetery. He died of cancer of the face from which he had suffered several years. He was a veteran of the Union army during the civil war, serving nearly four years, and making such a fine record that he was promoted to sergeant. He came here while a young man. Rev. Ed WORTH, formerly of Carlinville, and an old soldier, preached the funeral sermon. The G.A.R. post of Palmyra, of which he was a member, had charge of the funeral. Revs. JOHNSON and BABBS assisted Rev. WORTH in the funeral services. Four brothers and one sister were present.

Obituary: John Henry Frederick MIEHE was born in Sohiden, Germany, Aug 13, 1834, and died at his home in Palmyra, Nov. 4, 1906, aged 72 years, 2 months and 21 days. He came to America when fourteen years old and settled near Carlinville. He enlisted in the first Aug. 22, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca A. JACOBS. To this union were born eight children--two sons and six daughters. Two children died in infancy. He is survived by his faithful wife and one son, Walter F. and five daughters-- Mrs. John HUSON, Mrs. C. C. SHEARBORN, Mrs. John WEATHERFORD, Mrs. John CUMMINGS and Miss Lola B. MIEHE. Mr. Frederick MIEHE lived in the vicinity of Palmyra for 20 years, moving to the village 31[?] years ago. He had been afflicted with cancer for about 12 years. The past years he was a great sufferer. He was a member of the Palmyra Presbyterian church, from which church the funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 7th, at 10 a.m. Rev. Ed. WORTH preached the funeral. He was assisted in the service by Rev. J. M. JOHNSTON and Rev. A. V. BABBS. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery, Palmyra. He has gone from his dear ones, his children, his wife, Whom he willingly toiled for and loved all his life.

Obituary: Alvin G. MIEHER. A. G. MIEHER of Memphis, Tenn, died sometime between 4 and 5 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of his brother, George J. MIEHER, and sister Miss Amelia MIEHER, north of Carlinville. Mr. MIEHER was visiting his relatives in Carlinville when he became ill and was taken to the Macoupin Hospital where he remained for several weeks. However, his condition was so improved that a week ago he was removed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. George J. MIEHER, where he had apparently regained his usual health. Early Wednesday morning he was found dead in bed, the end coming as a great shock to all. A week or more ago, his son, William C. MIEHER of Memphis, came through Carlinville to visit with his father who seemed to be on the road to recovery. The deceased was 48 years, 6 months and 5 days of age at the time of his death. He had been a resident of Memphis for over twelve years. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Dorothy, and two sons, William C. and Clyde Thomas, all of Memphis. Also surviving, are two brothers, William C. of St. Louis and George J., of near Carlinville, and three sisters, Mrs. R. SOLOMON of Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Charles WIESE, north of Carlinville, and Miss Amelia. The funeral was held Friday, 2 p.m., from the home of his brother, George MIEHER, north of the city. The services were conducted by Rev. Walter OTT, pastor of the Evangelical church, and were attended by many relatives and friends. The pallbearers were John RYAN, Charles DUGGAN, Albert HAUER, Fred MUHLENBROCH, Adolph BLOOME and Karl KASTEN. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery. Mrs. Alvin MIEHER, the widow, and William and Clyde MIEHER, the two sons of the deceased, were here from Memphis, Tenn.

Obituary: Charles D. MIEHER, formerly a resident of Carlinville, but for the past six months a resident of Tulsa, Okla, died in Carlinville, Tuesday, July 18th, at 11 o'clock a.m. He was aged 75 years. His death occurred at the home of his brother-in-law, Peter LORENZ, on North Broad street. Mrs. LORENZ is his sister. Deceased was taken ill Monday and grew rapidly worse until the end came. December last, Mr. and Mrs. MIEHER and daughter, Miss Carrie, moved to Tulsa, Okla., where their son, Victor MIEHER, and family reside. About one month past he returned to Carlinville to look after his farming interests. Mr. MIEHER was a native of Germany and was born in 1847. He came to American with his parents at the age of ten years. For many years the deceased resided on what is known as Dutch lane, north of town. About 20 years ago he moved to this city and until he moved to Oklahoma, resided on College avenue. He was united in marriage forty years ago with Miss Mollie RUARK. The widow and children survive him. Also surviving are the sister, Mrs. LORENZ, and one brother, Christopher MIEHER, of near Nilwood. By industry and thrift he had acquired a considerable estate and at the time of his death was the owner of 340 acres of land. Arrangements for the funeral will not be made until the arrival of the family from Tulsa. They are expected today, Wednesday.

Obituary: Charles D. MIEHER, a former pioneer of Macoupin county, now of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Peter LORENZ at 11 o'clock, Tuesday morning. Last December, he and his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they bought property near the residence of his son Victor. About a month ago he came back to Carlinville to look after his farm and since being here, he has been busy looking after his real estate and marketing his rents. He was about through and was getting ready to return to Oklahoma. He was taken sick Monday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Peter LORENZ and gradually grew worse until death called him at 11 o'clock, Tuesday. He did business right up to the last as only Monday afternoon he had Peter LORENZ to look after marketing hay and had him deliver checks. The deceased was born in Germany in the year 1840 and came with his parents, Henry and Elizabeth (HAMANN) MIEHER to this country when he was but 10 years old. There were eight children in the family. The elder MIEHER was a millwright by trade and worked as a carpenter after he came to this country. He bought 80 acres of land on Dutch Lane when he came here and this place is still known as the old MIEHER homestead. The deceased worked on the farm and when he became of age he commenced to acquire property and at the time of his death he owned 360 acres of land besides he had other interests. About 40 years ago, he was married to Miss Mollie RUARK who together with two children, Victor and Miss Carrie and two grandchildren survive him. After Mr. MIEHER acquired considerable property he moved to Carlinville and had been a resident of this city thirty years. Besides his family, he leaves one brother, Christopher MIEHER who resides with his son, Edward C. MIEHER of Nilwood township and one sister, Mrs. Peter LORENZ of this city. The deceased brothers and sisters were William, Henry, Frank MIEHER, Mrs. Chris. KASTEN and Miss Dora MIEHER. No arrangements will be made for the funeral until members of the family arrive. They are expected sometime tomorrow.

Obituary: Funeral of Charles MIEHER. The funeral services for Charles MIEHER were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian church. The services were conducted by Rev. W. F. JONES, pastor of the church assisted by Rev. William RIEMEIER, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical church. Sweet music was rendered by a quartet from the church choir, composed of Misses Mae GARDNER and Sadie BROWN and Messrs. KAYSER and GORE, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. O. C. HARTLEY. The floral pieces were in charge of Messrs. A. L. HOBLIT and C. T. WHEAT and the pallbearers were Messrs. John HOMER, George B. ARNETT, Dr. J. L. LEWIS, William SURMAN, Ballard H. WOOD and George F. JORDAN. Interment was made in the city cemetery.

Obituary: Christian MIEHER, aged 88 years, died last Wednesday morning, May 15th at the home of his son, Edward MIEHER, at Standard City. Mr. MIEHER was one of the well known farmers of this community but had retired some years ago on account of advancing age. The following children survive him: Mrs. Dora ZELLMER, of North Dakota; Mrs. Tillie WALTER, of Texas; Mrs. Lee ROBLEY, of Atwater; Mrs. Sarah TALLEY, of Nilwood; Elmer MIEHER, of North Dakota; Albert MIEHER, Edward C. MIEHER and Mrs. Tillie KLAUS, of Carlinville. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Riefenberg Funeral Home and at 2:30 o'clock from St. Paul's Evangelical church. Rev. Walter OTT, the pastor, officiated. Interment was in the city cemetery.

Obituary: Death of Edward MIEHER. It was with much surprise and regret that the many friends of Edward MIEHER, of this city, learned of his sudden death, which occurred at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning at the Kelso hospital. About three weeks ago he was operated on for a serious trouble. He had so far recovered from the operation that he was preparing to go home. He was dressed and came down to the first floor of the hospital when he was suddenly attacked with heart failure, and died within a few minutes. Mr. MIEHER was aged 62 years. He was born in Carlinville, where he grew to manhood. When a young man he learned the trade of barber, which trade he has followed nearly all of his life. During the world's fair in Chicago, he conducted a shop in which city he was in business for about sixteen years. He was a man of excellent character, had a host of friends and will be greatly missed by those who knew him best. Surviving are the widow and the following brothers and sisters: William and Henry MIEHER, Mrs. L. GAUCH, of Carlinville, and Mrs. John WELK, of Springfield. The parents died many years ago. Funeral services were held from St. Paul's Evangelical church this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. RIEMEIER, the pastor, officiating. Interment was in the city cemetery. There was a large attendance of friends at the last rites.

Obituary: Edw. C. MIEHER Died at Centralia. Edward Charles MIEHER, aged 74, who was engaged in farming for many years near Carlinville, died at 11:20 Monday night, March 2nd, in a hospital in Centralia. He had been ill for more than a year, and had been in Centralia at the home of his son since December. His condition had been critical for several weeks. Mr. MIEHER was engaged in farming all of his life. He lived for a number of years on a farm west of Carlinville, in Bird township, and more recently had resided on a farm in the Nilwood vicinity. Decedent was born July 23, 1867. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian MIEHER. He is survived by his wife, Irma HAMILTON MIEHER; four sons, Edw. Jr., of Centralia; David, of Chicago; Herbert and John of Nilwood; one daughter, Mrs. Lucille APPLEMAN, of Champaign; four grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Frank KLAUS, Mrs. Lee ROBLEY, Mrs. Edw. TALLEY, Fred and Elmer MIEHER, all of Carlinville and vicinity. The remains were removed to the Riefenberg Funeral Home in this city, where services will be held at 2:00 o,clock this (Thursday) afternoon, Rev. R. HOHMANN, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical church, in charge. Interment will be in the city cemetery.

Obituary:Edward MIEHER Killed; Car Hits Train at Crossing. Accident Occurred Tuesday At 6:30 A.M. While Enroute to Work. Edward MIEHER, a former Carlinville boy, died Wednesday morning at 12:30 o,clock at a hospital in Madisonville, Ky., where he was taken following an accident which occurred on Tuesday morning at 6:30 o,clock. Mr. MIEHER, who was engaged in excavation work in strip mining operations, was enroute to his mine when he ran into a string of "empties" being taken to the mine on a seldom-used track. It was raining and visibility was poor at the time of the accident. Edward MIEHER is a son of Irma Frances HAMILTON MIEHER and the late Edward Christopher MIEHER and was born west of Carlinville on June 9, 1901, thus attaining the age of 49 years. He graduated from the Carlinville high school and the University of Illinois and following graduation was employed for a time as buyer for the Wilson Packing Co., working in Kansas City and Chicago. When his father's health failed he returned to the farm near Carlinville, remaining for five years. Following his father's death he engaged in excavation work in connection with strip mining at Centralia and later went to Madisonville, Ky, where he operated his own strip mine. He is survived by his wife, Iva, and his step-son, James, in the Army of Occupation in Germany. His mother, Mrs. Irma MIEHER, and a sister, Mrs. Lucille APPLEMAN reside in Los Angeles, Calif., and there are three brothers surviving, Herbert of Carlinville, Dave of Jackson, Miss., and John of Roodhouse, also six nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Madisonville Friday morning at 9:00 o,clock, after which the body will be brought to the Wiese funeral home in Carlinville. Funeral services here are tentatively set for Saturday afternoon.

Elmer Bernard MIEHER, 65, who had spent most of his life in the Carlinville area, died Saturday, June 28, at 5:00 a.m., at Lincoln Hospital in Incoln. His death followed an illness of two weeks. Decedent was born Oct. 3, 1892, in South Otter township, a son of Chris. and Sophia REMLING MIEHER. He is survived by one brother, Fred, of Carlinville, and a sister, Mrs. Flora ROBLEY, of Girard, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edward, Henry, and Albert, and four sisters, Mrs. Edw. ZELMER, Mrs. Tillie WALTER, Mrs. Frank KLAUS and Mrs. Clara TALLEY. Obituary: Miss Emma MIEHER Dies Here Sunday. Rites for Lifelong Resident Held Here Wednesday Afternoon. Miss Emma MIEHER passed away at 11 p.m. Sunday at her home at 905 Prairie street in this city, after a lingering illness. Miss MIEHER was born in Carlinville Aug. 25, 1861, a daughter of Henry and Minnie LIEKFETTE MIEHER. At the time of her death she was aged 86 years, four months and 23 days. She was a lifelong resident of this community, a faithful member of Zion Lutheran church and an active member of the Ladies' Aid society in this city. She is survived by five brothers, Gustav H. and Charles, with whom she made her home, William H. and Henry F. of this city, and Otto W. MIEHER of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and one sister, Kathryn, died at the age of 18. Also surviving are five nieces, three nephews and one great-great niece. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Zion Lutheran church in this city, with the Rev. Luther STEINER officiating. Martin BREYMANN sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Pallbearers were: Henry HALLBAUER, Ralph SURMAN, Mark MEYER, Jas. GOODNIGHT, Karl KASTEN and Carlin BEST. Obituary:Geo. J. MIEHER Died Friday At Macoupin Hospital. Underwent Operation from Which He Did Not Rally. George J. MIEHER, a bachelor, died at 6:35 p.m. Friday, Feb 7th, at the Macoupin Hospital. He became a patient there a week preceding his death, and underwent an operation on Monday of last week. He was 68 years old on Feb. 2nd. Mr. MIEHER was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. MIEHER and resided on the MIEHER homestead five miles north of Carlinville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William C. and Alvin. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Rochus SALOMON, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Chas. WIESE, of Carlinville, and Miss Amelia MIEHER, who resided with him. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday from the Wiese funeral home, Rev. R. Hohmann, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical church officiating. The interment was in the Lutheran cemetery. The pallbearers were John BOWN, R. C. MOORE, Adolph KUESTER, H. J. BLUE, Fred RUEGG and Wm. L. SCHMITT.

Obituary: Funeral Services for Mrs. W. H. MIEHER Were Held Monday. Mrs. Helene GRIFFEL MIEHER, 77, wife of William H. MIEHER, died at 7:15 a.m., Friday, June 20, at her home east of Carlinville. Decedent was born Sept. 21, 1869 in Carlinville, a daughter of the late Henry and Marie WEHRENBERG GRIFFEL. She was married in 1896 to William H. MIEHER, and they resided on a farm east of Carlinville on Route 108, most of their married life. She was a lifelong member of Zion's Lutheran church, and an honor member of the Lydia Society of the church. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters and one son, namely, Miss Alma MIEHER, St. Louis; Mrs. Selma YOUNG, Carlinville; Monroe MIEHER, Carlinville. Also surviving are five brothers, Henry GRIFFEL, of Bethalto; Fred GRIFFEL of Gillespie; Charles, William and John GRIFFEL of Carlinville. The body was removed to the Wiese funeral home. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday from the Lutheran church, Rev. Luther STEINER, the pastor, officiated. Martin BREYMANN sang "The Old Rugged Cross", and "Asleep in Jesus," with Edwin WILSON accompanist at the organ. Entombment was in Mayfield Memorial mausoleum. The pallbearers were Arthur KASTEN, Clarence STEINMEYER, Henry HALLBAUER, Otto ARMOUR, Homer WHITLOCK and Otto KONNEKER.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home of his sister Mrs. Frank KLAUS and at 2:00 o'clock from the Evangelical church. Interment was made in Mayfield Memorial Park. The flowers were many and beautiful and were in charge of Misses Dorothy LEHMANN, Nellie, Flora and Helen KLAUS, Mildred REMLING and Vera HAUER. The pallbearers were Chas. TETZLAFF and T. B. Obituary:Henry MIEHER died at his home in Carlinville, at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, July 19th. He was 79 years of age and was never married. For a number of years he served as janitor for St. Paul's Evangelical church. He had many friends and he was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Mr. MIEHER is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Louis GAUCH, of Carlinville, and Mrs. John WELDT, of Springfield; also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces. The remains were removed to the Heinz Mortuary and funeral services were held from there at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. R. HOHMANN, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical church. The interment was in the city cemetery. The following nephews served as pall bearers: Frank LOGES, Harry LOGES, Arthur SCHUPMANN, Roland SCHUPMANN, George ROHR, of Carlinville, and Carl WELK, of Springfield.

Obituary: Henry MIEHER Dies Friday of Heart Attack. Funeral Services for 93-Year-Old Resident Are Held Here Monday. Henry F. MIEHER, 93, well known former school teacher and farmer of the community, died suddenly Friday evening at 11 o'clock in Carlinville. He had taken his usual walk to town that afternoon to greet friends and seemed to be in the best of health upon retiring, when suddenly he became seriously ill. A physician was summoned and upon his arrival, the doctor found that Mr. MIEHER had died, his death apparently due to a heart attack. He attained the age of 93 years, 10 months and one day. He was born Feb 27, 1963, the second son of Henry and Minnie LACKFET MIEHER. On June 24, 1864 he was christened at Zion Lutheran church in this city and when he became a young man he was confirmed in that faith. He remained as a faithful member. In his early youth he lived on a farm north of Carlinville with his parents and received his education at Gore country school and Blackburn college. Later he became a school teacher and taught for some time in South Dakota and for many years in various country schools in Macoupin county. After retiring from teaching he became associated in farming, in which he was quite active, unti the past few years. He was a highly respected citizen and was interested in all civic affairs. His survivors include three brothers, Otto W. MIEHER of Chicago, Gustav and Charles MIEHER, both of this city; several nieces and nephews, Mrs. Amanda M. BEVERS and Miss Carolina MIEHER, both of Chicago; Miss Alma MIEHER of St. Louis; Roy MIEHER of Grant Park, Arthur MIEHER of Hettick; Mrs. Selma M. YOUNG, Mrs. Carrie M. BEST and Monroe MIEHER, all of this city. His parents, two sisters, Misses Catherine and Emma MIEHER, two nephews, Otto, Jr., and Victor MIEHER, preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Wiese funeral home, with the Rev. A. W. GALEN, pastor of Zion Lutheran church, officiating. Martin BREYMANN sang "Abide with Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Miss Mellnotte SANDERS. Interment was in Carlinville City cemetery. Obituary: Death of Mrs. W. F. MIEHER. Mrs. Mary MIEHER, wife of William F. MIEHER, died at the family home about 5 miles north of this city at 1:40 o'clock Tuesday morning, March 22. She had been ill since Friday of last week, but was not considered in a dangerous condition, and in fact was believed to be better the day preceding her death. Mrs. MIEHER was born in Hanover, Germany, and was 59 years of age last September. While young she came with her parents to America, settling in Macoupin county. She was married to William F. MIEHER about forty years ago. The husband and six children survive. The children are William and Alvin MIEHER, of St. Louis; Mrs. R. SALOMAN, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; George, Amelia and Adella MIEHER, who reside at home. The funeral will probably be held Thursday, but the hour will not be known until word is received from the daughter in Brooklyn, N.Y. The services will be conducted from the Lutheran church in this city.

Obituary:Otto MIEHER, Jr., Died Sunday in Chicago. Otto MIEHER Jr., of this city, died Sunday evening, November 11th, at 6:30 o'clock, in a Chicago hospital. He was returning from South Dakota where he attended school and became so ill in Carroll, Iowa, that he had to be removed from there to a hospital in Chicago. He was 27 years of age. Deceased is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto MIEHER Sr., of near Carlinville; three sisters, Mrs. Amanda BEVER, Chicago, Mrs. Lee BEST, of Carlinville, and Miss Carolina MIEHER, of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Roy, of Chicago, and Arthur of this city. The remains arrived in Carlinville Monday evening, and were taken to the Wiese Funeral Home, where they will remain until the hour of the funeral. The funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Evangelical church, Rev. R. HOHMAN, the pastor, officiating. Interment will be made in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery. The pall bearers will be Bobby CLARK, Monroe MIEHER, Wm. BLOOME, George YOUNG, Charles WIESE and Victor ROSENTRETER. Obituary: Mrs. Sophia MIEHER, wife of Chris MIEHER, (nee REMLING), was born in Litchtenberg, Brunswick, Germany, on the 13th day of April 1845. She came to America when only 12 years old. In 1866 she was married to her husband Mr. Chris MIEHER. This union was blessed with ten children, five sons and five daughters, who are all living in or near Carlinville, except two daughters, one living in North Dakota and the other in Texas. All children with the exception of the youngest son, are married. Mrs. MIEHER was a faithful member of the St. Paul's Evangelical church, belonged to the Ladies Aid society, lived a true christian life, was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother. On the sixth of June of last year, she was stricken with paralysis and has been an invalid ever since. She bore her affliction with Christian fortitude till the last, confiding in the sacred saying: "All things work for good to them that love God." She died Saturday, Feb. 17, at the age of 71 years, ten months and four days. She leaves besides her husband and ten children, two sisters, Mrs. Christina TIEFENBRACH and Mrs. Dina BRETSCHER of St. Louis, and one brother, Christ REMLING of this city, together with 15 living grand-children, four having preceded her in death, and a large host of other relatives, friends and neighbors to mourn her demise. Funeral services over the remains were conducted Monday, Feb. 19, at 1:30 from the house and at 2:00 from the St. Paul's Evangelical church, conducted by Rev. William RIEMEIER. Interment in the city cemetery. The pall-bearers were H. LANGE, W. CHIESSECK[?], Thomas CONLEE, Gus KASTEN, George HAMMAN and Edward WIESE. Thou shalt rise! my dust, thou shalt arise. No always closed thine eyes; Thy life's first giver, Will give the life forever. Hallelujah. Sown in darkness, but to bloom again, When after winter's reign. Obituary: Well Known Citizen Passes Away. William F. MIEHER Died Saturday Evening-- Was Veteran Soldier. Funeral Tuesday Afternoon. William F. MIEHER, one of the best known citizens in this city and community, died on Saturday evening, at 9:30 o'clock at his home four miles north of Carlinville, aged 74 years. He had been a sufferer from asthma for many years and his death was caused by a sudden attack of that disease. Up to Saturday afternoon he had made no complaint of feeling ill and the attack which resulted in his death was, therefore, unexpected. Mr. MIEHER was known to every body in this vicinity as "Captain" MIEHER. He was born in Hanover, Germany Sept. 13, 1837, and came to America in 1853, settling in vicinity of Carlinville. In 1861 he enlisted in the regular army joining the Fifth Artillery, Company D, under command of Captain Charles GIBBONS. He served with distinction in the civil war and took part in numerous battles. He was in that terrible battle of Gettysburg one of the bloodiest f the great war, if not of all history. Only a few of his comrades in his battery escaped death on that occasion. He was a valiant soldier and served his country well and faithfully, a splendid example of patriotism and devotion to his adopted country. Mr. MIEHER was united in marriage August 26, 1866, to Miss Mary DORIANUS who was a native of Germany. To this union six children were born, as follows: Wm. C. and A. G. MIEHER, of St. Louis; Mrs. R. SOLOMON, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Geo J. MIEHER, Mrs. Charles WIESE and Miss Amelia MIEHER, of Carlinville. His wife passed away several years ago. In politics Mr. MIEHER was a Republican and had served on the board of supervisors from his township. He was a man who had strong beliefs and had a host of strong and steadfast friends. Whatever position he held, he was always found on the side of right and justice, doing his full duty as he saw it. His death will be sincerely deplored by a large circle of friends who know and appreciate his worth. Surviving him are his children above named and Christ, Charles and Henry MIEHER, brothers, and Mrs. P. W. LORENZ, and Mrs. Christ KASTEN, sisters. All reside in this city and vicinity. Deceased was a charter member of the Modern Woodmen lodge of Carlinville. The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the residence at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. RIEMEIER, of the Evangelical church, officiating. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery. Dan Messick Post G.A.R., No. 339, of which deceased had long been a member, attended the services in a body. The pall bearers were C. T. WOODWARD, F. D. GORE, Edw. WIESE, George W. EBERT, Solomon STEIDLEY and C. H. BURGDORFF.

Obituary: William F. MIEHER was born in Hanover, Germany, September 13, 1837. He died at his home in South Otter township November 12, 1910. The deceased emigrated to this country March 4, 1853 and on April 16, 1861, enlisted in the Union arm and was soon made a corporal under Capt. Charles GRIFFIN of Company D, 5th Artillery. He served in the battles of Yorktown, Hanover Court House, Gaines' Mill, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Rappanhanock Station and Mine Run. Mr. MIEHER was married to Miss Mary DOMANUS on the 26th day of August, 1866 and to this union were born the following children, all of whom are grown and who now live in the localities mentioned after their names: Wm. C. L. MIEHER and Alvin G. MIEHER, of St. Louis, Mo.; Geo J. MIEHER of South Otter; Mrs. R. SOLOMON of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mrs. Chas WIESE and Miss Amelia MIEHER of South Otter. Mrs. MIEHER, wife of the deceased, died six years ago. The funeral occurred Tuesday, November 15, at 1:30 p.m., from the late residence of the deceased. Interment in the Lutheran cemetery here. The pallbearers were Chas. WOODWARD, Edw. WEISE, George EBERT, F. D. GORE, Solomon STEIDLEY and Chas. BURGDORFF. The deceased came to this vicinity immediately after the Civil war, and located on the farm where he passed the rest of his life. He was a good citizen and was a member of the G.A.R. and the M.W.A., both of which fraternities were officially represented at the funeral.

William Henry MEIHER, retired farmer and lifelong resident of this community, passed away at his home in Shaws Point township Thursday night at 11 o,clock. Mr. MEIHER was born in Carlinville Mar. 15,1858, a son of Henry and Minnie LIEKSETTE MEIHER, and was 90 years old at the time of his death. He was married fifty-one years ago to Helen GRIFFEL MEIHER who preceded him in death June 20, 1947. A son, Victor, also preceded him in death. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran church in this city and was a man of admirable talents. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Alma MEIHER of St. Louis and Mrs. Selma YOUNG of this city; one son, Monroe MEIHER of Carlinville; one granddaughter, Audrey K. MEIHER; four brothers, Henry, Gustav and Chas. MEIHER of Carlinville and Otto MEIHER of Chicago. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran church here Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. Luther STEINER officiating. Martin BREYMAN sang "Abide with Me" and "Asleep in Jesus." Pallbearers were Chas. KONNEKER, Albert LOEHR, Jr., Otto ARMOUR, Homer WHITLOCK, Loren SNOW and Arthur KASTEN. Burial was in Mayfield Memorial Mausoleum.

Obituary: York Christopher MIEHER, the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Fred MIEHER, was born Sept. 15, 1912 and departed this life, Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1923, at the Denby-Kelso Hospital, where he was operated on for relief of appendicitis. He was, at the time of his death, 10 years, 4 months and 9 days. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred MIEHER, one little brother, Ivan, a little sister having preceded him in death about two years ago. Besides his immediate family, he is survived by his grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. York attended the Kasten school and was in the fourth year at the time of his death. He was loved by all his schoolmates and his teacher who sadly will miss him in their classes as well as in their play. He was a patient, kind and loving boy who always greeted his acquaintances with a smile. Even in the last few days of his suffering he told his dear ones who were at his bedside that he hoped it wouldn't be long until he would be able to be up and around and be back at school. Shed not for him, the bitter tear, Nor give the heart to vain regret; 'Tis but the casket that lies here, the gem that filled it, sparkles yet. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 26th at 1:30 p.m. at the home of his parents, north of Carlinville. Rev. William RIEMEIER conducted the services and a choir composed of Mesdames Lee ROBLEY and Oscar COLE and the Misses Louise and Lena FRICKE, Flora and Irene LOTT, sang "Rock of Ages," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "I'll Be a Sunbeam" and "God Be With You." The interment was made in the city cemetery. The pallbearers were Glen HAYES, Walter ERNST, Charles WIESE, Melvin KLAGNES, schoolmates of York, also Melvin KLAUS and Otto MIEHER, his cousins. The flower girls were his teacher, Miss Lena D. FRICKE, and Irene LOTT, Lenora YORK, Velma and Eula SLAYTON and Ethel CONLEE--His Teacher.

Obituary: Henry MIEHE, sr., who resided in the north part of the city, died Monday, aged 73, and was buried yesterday. He was for many years a prosperous farmer northwest of town, but his health failed and he came to town. He was greatly esteemed by those who knew him, and left many relatives and friends to remember him. He was born in Germany. Mr. MIEHE had been married 55 years, and his wife and 7 of his 8 children survive him. He was one of the early settlers on "Dutch Lane."
