Sigel Capel, who is held in high repute by the citizens of
Mount Olive, is one of the city's prominent and successful attorneys. He was
born in Illinois on September 8, 1870, and is one of a family of four
children born to John I. and Mary E. (Nolan) Capel.
John I. Capel
was born in Tennessee in 1845 and after reaching the years of manhood took
up the occupation of farming and now resides in Illinois.
Sigel
Capel received his preliminary educational training in the public schools of
Saline County, Illinois, and later attended the schools at Haywood, Wayne
County, Illinois, completing his school education at the high school of that
county. He then studied law under W. H. Boyer of Harrisburg, Illinois and G.
M. Milley of the same place. In 1893 he was admitted to the bar at Mount
Vernon, Illinois, and began the practice of his profession at Harrisburg,
continuing with such success that in December 1900 he was elected States
attorney. In 1903 he located in Mount Olive and has continued in the
practice of his profession ever since with much success. In political
circles, Mr. Capel is a member of the Republican party and in fraternal
circles he is a member of the Knights of Pythias, Independent Order of Odd
Fellows and the Masons.
Mr. Capel was united in marriage to Janie
Parks, a daughter of Rufus Parks, and they are the parents of one son,
Hobart P., who was born in June, 1896. Our subject and family are members of
the Methodist Episcopal Church.
