Tintypes from Richard Davidson

"I believe the people in these pictures are relatives or friends of the Oller family possibly from Virden or Carlinville, Macoupin County IL or Litchfield, Montgomery County IL. The Tintypes were in my grandmother's Emma Adcock Davidson's trunk. Emma's mother was Sarah Oller Adcock. Sarah later married Silas Meeds." -- Richard Davidson

Written on the back of #9 - "Mr. Cotton Bluebook night engineer at the coal shaft, Palmer Illinois" Does anyone know more about him?

Clarence Southard, born in 1900, had this photo. He thought it was the homestead of either Maze, Perrin, or Southard.

A cousin of mine recently sent me this picture, but did not know who was in it. She thought it might have been taken about 1907.

Arthur Cherry Turner, b. 1900, might be in this picture.

My father, Merle Edward Turner, was b. in 1903, and he had brothers & sisters b. in 1885, 1889, 1892, 1898, & 1900, so some of them might have been in this picture.

Their family lived close to Berean School (North Palmyra Township) & also Washington School (North Otter Township), north of Modesto. -- Carol Robinson

Family Photo from Yvonne Stedman

My aunt Zoe claims the photo is Hiram Hays and family, taken in Albia, Iowa. The second person from the left is Hiram D. HAYS. The last woman in the second row is Martha Henrietta ((STEVENS) HAYS.

I don't think it is Hiram as he died in 1850 and Martha would have been about 6 yrs. old then. She married my gggggrandfather John L. STEVENS in 1862.

Maybe the photo is of Nancy Stewart with her new husband, John TAYLOR. But then again, Nancy died before 20 March 1868, according to her father's probate.

So, I am wondering who this family really is. -- Yvonne Stedman

These 14 photos belonged to Mary Catherine (McClain) Cogswell (born 1864). She came from Bath County, Kentucky, about 1877, to Macoupin County. She married Hugh Cogswell in 1889. Mary and Hugh lived all their married life in Macoupin County. Those pictured were probably friends and/or family members.

Photos from Leslie Rigsby

I recently [April 2010] came into possession of a box of old photos. Most of them have not been identified. If anyone would like to go through my box of photos in the hopes of identifying and sharing them, please let me know.

I believe the unknown one may be William Andrew Rigsbey (Rigsby) but I'm not sure. It was with the belongings of Marjorie Rigsby (my husband's grandma), wife of Robert L. Rigsby, son of William Andrew Rigsbey.

William Andrew Rigsby's grandparents were William Rigsby and Margaret Kennedy Rigsby of Garrard, County, Kentucky. His parents were John William Rigsbey and Anna Eliza Conn Rigsbey, who moved from Kentucky to Chesterfield, Illinois. -- Leslie Rigsby

Boys from Dina Struthers-Stultz

#40
I found this photo at my father's, Doug Struthers, house. It may be my grandpa (his father), John Struthers, of Gillespie and John’s older brother, James Struthers, Jr., around 1905. Nothing is written on the back to indicate who these boys are, so it’s simply a guess.

The brothers emigrated from Scotland to America in 1905 with their parents, James Struthers Sr. and Jessie, so this could be the last picture they took before they left Scotland or when they first arrived. I realize nobody can say for sure who they are but the outfits are pretty cool to see.

In the 1910 census, John and James Struthers lived at 9496 Easton Heights. In the 1920 census (taken in January 1920) they lived at 118 Easton Heights (possibly same house, different numbers?). I found the deed, #309, where they bought the Abba Street house for $1.00 from Johanna Hopper in Sept. 1920. -- Dina Struthers-Stultz

I was recently given this very interesting group photograph that my cousin Myron Jackson (formerly of Morgan County) had in a folder. He didn't know who the people are, nor if the photo was taken in Morgan or Macoupin County.

I feel strongly that they are relatives of either the Browns, Fannings, Hoppers, Jacksons, McCurleys, or Mansfields. -- Carol Dugger

There is a cemetery with a couple of buildings close by. Possibly an old church. I believe it is relative to the Sharp/White/Redfern families, Sharps & Redferns have long histories in Macoupin County. Anyway, I am sure that the landscape has long been changed, however, I thought that there may be someone that could identify something in the photo. -- Stan Jacobs

My grandfather, Charles Hauser, is far left with the "dunce look" hat on. My grandfather lived in Litchfield. My cousin and I were trying to figure out who the other people in the picture are. He never worked in the mine but was in the Rotary and Elks Clubs. In his early days he was a farmer and in later years he was the president of the Milnot Company so we're trying to figure out the connection. The only thing I can think of would be maybe if he attended a speaker's seminar at Chautauqua? In later years he donated money to the fund for miners with Black Lung Disease. -- Donna Sattley

Families from Susan Renfro Anderson

These family photos are probably connected to the BANDY and SUTTON lines of Macoupin and Montgomery Counties in Illinois.

They are in the possession of Susan Renfro Anderson, great great grandaughter of George and Martha Sutton Bandy.

George and Martha Sutton Bandy were married 1869 in Montgomery County, Illinois, lived in Macoupin County, Illinois, about 6 years, then migrated to Barton County, Missouri, where they lived the rest of their lives.

This photo has "Rochdall" written on it.

#46
This family photo was taken by Blackburn of Palmyra, IL. Martha Sutton Bandy's father and step mother lived in Palmyra. This could be a Sutton branch of the family. We think this may be William H. and Hattie SUTTON KITTINGER and daughters Opal in back and Ola in front.
