Obituary: Life of Mrs. W. R. EDDINGTON - Eliza
E. EDDINGTON (nee MILLER) was born near
Albany, N. Y., on May 5, 1846, and died in Brighton Township,
Macoupin County, Illinois, on Nov. 14, 1927, at the age of 81
years, 6 months and 9 days. About the year 1851 the family
came to Alton, Ill., and resided there until 1857, when they
moved to a farm in Brighton Township. About the year 1862 she
became a member of the German Methodist Church of Alton and at
the time of removal to the farm, she transferred her
membership to the German Methodist Church of Fosterburg, and
retained it there until her death. On June 23, 1867, she was
united in marriage with Wm. R. EDDINGTON, and to this
union four children were born. They were Luella O. STROHBECK,
O. Hiram EDDINGTON, Harvey O. EDDINGTON and
Norman O. EDDINGTON. She is survived by her husband,
children, eleven grandchildren, one brother, two sisters and a
host of friends. Having lived more than 60 years at the home
where she died, she knew a large number of the people of this
vicinity. She was a true wife, a loving mother, and a good
neighbor. She had been a helpless invalid for almost eleven
years, and totally blind for the last seven years, but she was
always cheerful and she never complained of her affliction,
altho she fully realized and said years ago that she never
would be well again. So when her time had fully come, without
a struggle, she fell asleep on earth to awake in heaven. The
funeral service was conducted on Nov. 10 at the church in
Woodburn where she was married more than 60 years ago, and the
interment was made in the nearby cemetery.

Obituary: Correspondence. Woodburn. Died, Thursday,
April 2d, Mrs. Elizabeth EDDINGTON, aged 82 years, 5
months and 12 days. She was born in Sommersett Shire, England.
Her maiden name being Elizabeth JENKINS; she was
married to George EDDINGTON and came to this country,
arriving at Alton, Nov., 5th, 1840, and came to Woodburn the
same day; lived here about 2 1/2 years, removing to the farm
two miles west of town in 1843, where she resided till her
death. She was the mother of six sons and three daughters,
seven of whom with her husband preceded her. She was a loving
mother, hardworking, ever anxious to promote the best
interests of her children, a consistent Christian and a kind
neighbor. Her funeral was from the Congregational church,
Sunday morning, Rev. J. R. BARNES preaching from
Psalms 23:4. Her death was closely followed by that of her son
Isaac, aged 50 years. Scarcely had the funeral procession of
his mother passed from the house when Isaac, who was standing
in the doorway, leaned his head to one side, and drew a long
breath. A friend took him in his arms and laid him down, when
those around found he was dead. He had been suffering for
several months with heart trouble and was unable to attend his
mother's funeral. He was born, reared, and died in the same
house where his father died when he was nine years of age. He
was deeply attached to his mother, and had promised many times
never to leave her. It was the desire and prayer of both that
they might die together. He was a successful business man,
never speculated but farmed and invested his money in farms.
He was a Christian man; his bible was well worn; his hand was
always open to the needy; he was a generous hearted, a kind,
true friend. Our community is saddened by these deaths and the
surviving son and brother William, with his family, have our
sincere sympathy in his sore bereavements. Funeral was from
the Congregational church on Tuesday morning, Rev. BARNES
officiating.
