BACON, CASTEEL, KING, UNDERWOOD posted by Terri Casteel on Sunday, February 1, 1998
Seeking information on the parents and family of James Monroe CASTEEL & Susannah UNDERWOOD. Were residing in Macoupin Co., IL in 1880 census with their son, James Polk CASTEEL and his wife, Arra Amanda BACON. James M. CASTEEL died 19 May 1886 and is buried in Charity Cemetery with his wife Susan UNDERWOOD (b. May 1816 TN; d. 7 Jul 1903 - no death certificate can be located for her). If someone is familiar with the area, there may be information at the church that maintains this cemetery(?). Two of their sons, James Polk and his brother Joseph M. CASTEEL were Baptist ministers in Hettick, Macoupin, IL. James Polk CASTEEL married Arra A. BACON 13 Apr 1876 at 'her mother's residence' in Barr Township, Macoupin Co.. Arra is the daughter of Jeremiah BACON (b. 7 Mar 1824 TN) and Susan S. KING. Jeremiah is buried in Miller Cemetery, Barr, Macoupin, IL. with his wife Susan. We do not have a date of death for him. It is after the 1860 census & probably before Arra's marraige in 1876. Susan S. KING (b. 4 mar 1822 TN) died 20 Jun 1904. A death certificate could not be located for her. Any information on these couples and their parents would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

BOWERS, DAVIS, SHENEHAN, THOMPSON posted by Karen E. Fugate on Friday, February 13, 1998
In researching my family, I have lost track of the William H. THOMPSON family who lived in Sangamon Co. after 1850 moving there from Menard Co. IL. There was a Dr. by that name also living in Sangamon Co. about the same time so the research has been very difficult. I find no record of William's death but the obituary of yhis widow, who died 25 Jul 1892 says the late Wm. Thompson of this county. She, Barbara SHENEMAN, died at the home of her son-in-law, Levi Bowers in Carlinville in Macoupin Co. They do not have death certs back that far, but I find her burial in Taylor cemetery along with 4 children who had d. bet. 1852 & 1864 in Sangamon Co. They had a son, Georgw W., daus: Anna M. b. 1838, m. 25 Dec 1881 to Wm. W. DAVIS; Elizabeth b. 1840/1,no record of marriage in Sangamon Co.; Jane b. 1847, no record of marriage in Sangamon Co.; Jennie b. 1840, m. Charles W. BRUEGGEMANN, HAUMUELLER, KOELLING posted by Mark Strohbeck on Sunday, February 22, 1998
I am researching a family named BRUEGGEMANN who emigrated from Salzuflen, Lippe-Detmold to the US in the early 1850s. They are the children of Johann Henrich (1786-?) and his wife, Hanne Cathrina Henrietta (1791-1843). Hanne Cathrina died in Germany, but Johann Henrich probably emigrated in his later years with his adult children. They were the following: Simon Heinrich (Henry) (1814-1879), Hermann Heinrich (1818-1881), Henrietta Katherine (1821-?), Franz Konrad August (August) (1826-?), Johann Friedrich Adolph (Adolph) (1828-1890 ), Hanne Elise Christiane (Eliza) (1831- ?) and Hanne Louise (Johanna) (1835-1910). Hermann and brother August were the first to emigrate in 1852. Hermann took up farming north of Fosterburg in extreme southern Macoupin County. August may have resided in St. Louis. In 1853 Henry, Adolph, Henriette and Johanna emigrated. Henry and Adolph settled in Alton. Henriette, who was married to Charles KOELLING, settled on a farm in Southern Macoupin near brother Hermann. Johanna was my great great grandmother. She married George Henry Strohbeck and they settled on a farm north of Fosterburg in Madison County. Eliza emigrated in 1854, probably with her father. I believe she married a man named Henry HAUMUELLER and resided in St. Louis. The father, however, appears to be enumerated on the 1860 Census in Macoupin County on the outskirts of Brighton. I would enjoy hearing from anyone else who may be researching this family or associated families. I would especially like to find out where the father, Johann Henrich, may be buried. Also, I have lost the KOELLINGs, and would appreciate a lead on where they may have ended up. Thanks.
