David Allen SMITH, b. ca. 1809, Richmond, VA; d. 1865, Jacksonville, IL; m. 1st - unk., 2nd - Eliza ALLAN; as infant, his family moved to Pulaski TN; then to Courtland, AL. At his father's death, he inherited several plantations & 21 slaves. After 2 years, he moved to Jacksonville, practicing law with Col. John J. Hardin. He had a family of 11, most of whom attended colleges in Jacksonville. He was a patron of both Illinois College & Jacksonville Female Academy. He served as a Trustee for Illinois College (1842-his death in 1865). He was a patron of both colleges. I have been researching the name POSEY and according to the information given by a gr uncle in the 1900 census, my gr grandfather was born in IL. Today I found something in Dallas Co. That is very interesting because my gr grandfather was Andrew J. POSEY. He m. between 1860-62 Eliza J. Lamb in TX. They had two children by 1865. If you know of anyone in your society who has researched the Uhl name will you please let me know? Or the POSEY name - it could be Zacharia or Zackary. I saw Jubilee POSEY on census.
