Looking at the Caudle, Arnold, and Banning families of Macoupin and Greene Counties and their relationships. I had a quiery earlier about Lemuel Banning who married Mary Angeline Caudle dau of Isham and Sarah Arnold Caudle (m. jan 22, 1843 in Greene Co., Ill) There are several Arnolds, Caudles, and Lemuel Banning and Benoi Banning buried in Land's Cemetery. I recently heard from Bill of St. Louis whose direct ancestor was a brother of Lemuel Banning. He had that Lemuel and Mary Angeline Caudle Banning had two daughters both who appeared to have Arnold as a last name .. I suspect it was a middle name since that was their mother's maiden name. Bill and I are interested in hearing from anyone from this Banning, Arnold, Caudle Connection. I am grateful to Julie Claussen (my distant cousin on both Mother and Dad's sides from ancestors of Macoupin,Greene, and Morgan)for posting her listing of those buried at Land's Cemetery although it is not complete...probably because from time to time, stones have been stolen or distroyed. I have an incomplete listings of a few Caudle and Emmons burials there from stones I saw in Land's Cemetery in the 60's.

ARCHIBALD, BAILEY, DANIELS, FOX, PERKINS, RODGERS posted by Esther Doyle Read on Saturday, May 12, 2001
Searching for descendants of SAMUEL FOX. He was born 18 August 1845, in England, probably Derbyshire. His parents were Thomas and Ann Fox (born circa 1821). In about 1860, the family left England and settled in Plymouth Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, they bought land in the township. Thomas died by 1870. Ann remarried between 1860 and 1870, and was widowed again. She appears in the 1870 Census for Plymouth Township as Ann DANIELS, widow, living with her bachelor sons David and William FOX, and her recently widowed daughter, Mary Ann PERKINS; as well as her Perkins Grandchildren. Samuel does not appear on the 1870 Pennsylvania Census. In 1878, Samuel is listed as a property owner in Braidwood, Reed Township, Will County, Illinois. His occupation is given as miner. His brother David was a miner in Pennsylvania. His late brother-in-law, Henry Perkins, had been a miner in Illinois. By 1906, Samuel settled in Virden, Macoupin County, Illinois. He died in 1919 and is buried in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Sangamon County, Illinois. Samuel FOX married Sarah BAILEY. She was born 1853, in England and died 1938, in Illinois. She is burned in Auburn Cemetery. They had at least 9 children: LAURA FOX, WILLIAM H. FOX (1874-1929, buried Auburn) married Theresa E. (Unknown)(1885-1959, buried Auburn), had daughter Wilma Fox (1907-1975, buried Auburn); ZATHAN FOX; FANNIE FOX; GEORGE B. FOX (1884-1969, buried Auburn) married Eva L. (Unknown) (1891-1979, buried Auburn); SADIE FOX (17 June 1886, in Illinois-10 August 1919, death certificate places death in Virden, buried Auburn) she never married; SAMUEL FOX; CLARA FOX, may be the daughter who married James ARCHIBALD, had daughter LaClare Archibald; and JAMES FOX. I have information on Pennsylvania branch of the Fox family both through Samuel's brother, David Fox, who is my great-great grandfather; and through Samuel's sister Alice Fox Perkins Rodgers. I also have information on Samuel's brother William Fox, who settled in Braceville, Illinois.

Our James Carmody fell out of the sky and landed in Nilwood, Macoupin County, Illinois just in time to appear in the 1870 Census with a wife (Bridget A'Hearn) and three children: Mary b. 17 March 1868, Thomas b. 3 April 1869, and Patrick Michael b. 17 December 1869. James was supposedly born 30 January 1829 in Co. Limerick, Ireland and Bridget was supposedly born in Co. Kerry, Ireland sometime thereafter. Bridget appears in the 1870 and 1880 census for Macoupin County and as a witness on an 1896 baptismal certificate but disappears before the 1900 Census. Her death announcement has not been located in any local newspaper between those two time periods. James was buried in a cemetery in Farmersville, Montgomery Co., IL on 1 February 1916 but the death certificate does not indicate which cemetery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
