Clinton Co, MO) and Amanda Jane BALDWIN GIBSON (3 Feb 1847 Montgomery Co, IN-25 Sept 1870;
buried Virden Cemetery, Macoupin Co, IL). Isham and Amanda married 23 Dec 1868 in Sangamon Co,
IL. Son Charlie, a family legend until he appeared in the 1880 Bates Co, MO, census, was "Charles"
and age 11 in that census. Amanda was one of twelve children of William Crooks BALDWIN (1809
Butler Co, OH-3 June 1889 Virden, Macoupin Co, IL; buried Virden) and Cyrena DALTON BALDWIN (14
July 1815? Madison Co, KY-2 July 1880 Virden, Macoupin Co, IL; buried Virden). Other children were
John M, Julia A, Francis Marion, William Alexander, Jerome Bonaparte Joe, an unknown son, Amy
Elizabeth, Thomas Hampton, Buel, Amy Ann Emma BOLTZ, and Mary Virginia Mollie WEIR. Isham II
was the s/o Isham GIBSON I (1803 TN-6 Dec 1875 MO; buried Rogers Cemetery, Bates Co, MO)

Elizabeth were Andrew P, Javan, Daniel Boone, George W, Lean C, Frances Garth, Alexander M,
Elizabeth, Roxana Gitlin, and Slitha/Celithia Cummings. Another child died in infancy. The senior
Gibsons migrated to Bates Co, MO, in 1871 after Isham I s long career as an itinerant Brethren
preacher in southern IL. They undoubtedly had Isham II and toddler Charlie in tow. George Sell had
been sent to Clinton Co by the Brethren church. Perhaps that explains how Isham II and Emma met. In
any event, Emma SELL (17 Feb 1855 Blair Co, PA-11 Aug 1927) became the second wife of Isham
GIBSON II on 2 May 1872 in Clinton Co, MO. Emma's first son was born about 1873; at least three
additional children followed. After Isham's death, she married Robert C WRIGHT 25 Nov 1885 in
Clinton Co, MO, and had at least three more children. Emma was the d/o George SELL (1833-1913;
buried Brethren Cemetery, Clinton Co, MO, next to son-in-law Isham GIBSON II) and his wife Elizabeth
(1834-1911). They had had at least 2 daughters, Laura and Emma. Children of Isham Gibson II:

I am looking for information on my daughter's gg grandfather Lewis Metcalf Hoggatt. He was born
08/28/1875 in Scotville, Macoupin County. He married Sarah Alida Hicks on 01/12/1898. He was on
the 1880 Census living with William and Fetney Arnold in Macoupin County. I have no idea who his
parents and siblings were; or, why he was living with the Arnold's during this census. I would
appreciate any help. (That brick wall is rapidly becoming a mountain). Trina
